conference. The book selection is Green Lights by Matthew McConaughey. The dialogue will
be facilitated by Marita Rhude, IIMC Region VI Director. The dialogue is eligible for IMFOA
and IIMC education credits. Separate registration required.

Resource topics and how to navigate those difficult conversations and decisions:

• Addressing difficult employees. What to say and how to say it both verbally and in
  writing.
• Salary vs. hourly employees and how to determine each classification; how to document
  work and vacation hours for both types of employees.
• Taking a deep dive into the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations, which
  provide job-protected leave from work for family and medical reasons and how to define
  and implement “special accommodations.”

The Iowa League of Cities invites IMFOA attendees to an open house at their newly renovated offices and meet League and IMWCA staff. There will be two food trucks onsite right outside of the offices. Transportation is not provided.

9:15 - 10:15 a.m. – Public Innovations & Efficiencies Cost-Cutting Competition
State of Iowa Auditor Rob Sand began the Public Innovations & Efficiencies (PIE) cost-cutting competition in 2019.  Auditor Sand will discuss how the program works and the benefits of participating in this statewide program.  Since its inception in 2019 city, county and schools have implemented various efficiency practices and shared those practices through this program.  Learn how your community can be recognized for the cost savings efforts that have been adopted.

Jerika Pellington and Chet Eginoire of the Iowa Department of Revenue will give an overview
of GovConnectIowa, including the Designated Exempt Entity Program, W-2/1099 filings, return filing practices, and of the State of Iowa Setoff Program.

Sara Shonrock, Institute and Academy Director will share Summer schedule changes.  Those recently earning their IMFOA Clerk and/or Finance Certifications will be presented their certificates.

We believe in addressing the whole person, recognizing that mental, physical, and emotional health are interconnected components of a thriving life.  Drawing from our experience assisting municipalities, we will share how personalized initiatives have increased employee engagement and employee wellbeing. Learn how to implement similar strategies to create impactful programs that resonate with all your staff, ultimately leading to happier and healthier people.  Presenting this session will be Charlie Notheis, Director of Business Development, Navigate Wellbeing Solutions.

3:00 – 5:00 p.m. – ChatGPT and Generative AI
Generative artificial intelligence is here and it's going to impact all of our lives. In this session, Drake University professors Chris Porter, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Program, and Multimedia Professor Chris Snider will walk you through the capabilities of ChatGPT and similar tools. They will discuss ethical concerns, AI policies, and a framework for deciding how much AI should be used for various tasks.

The past few years have given us challenges we’ve never experienced before.  Today, the challenges have continued on that path requiring change.  People, budgets, meetings, and scheduling have all taken their toll on us and have contributed to work challenges and loss of perspective.  This session, wrapped with humor, will share some meaningful tools and insights to help you make 2024 a really good year and ride a new wave of adventure.  This session will be presented by Steve Siemens of Siemens People Builders, Inc.
